Reconstruction of Traditional Architecture A Design Education Tool

The study of traditional built environments is instrumental in understanding the essence behind the formation of vernacular architecture. Insight gained from this study helps in learning important lessons about the mutual interaction between culture and architecture, and the effect that each has on the other. This approach was greatly used in teaching the history of architecture and, in some instances, theory of architecture. Yet the results of this approach were not advanced enough in design education despite its great potentials. Substantial database of local architectural vocabulary and appropriate design solutions can be established through the detailed analysis of vernacular building systems.
